History

The Boise Bike Week philosophy is simple-- "Get on your bikes and ride!" We figure the more that people see cyclists out in the community safely having fun on their bikes, the more likely they are to dust off their own bike and experience the many health, environmental, community, and monetary benefits of pedal-powered transportation for themselves. In this spirit the grass-roots Boise Bike Week movement has grown each year since its beginning in 2003. Now in its sixth year, Boise Bike Week 2008 offers all of the popular events from last year plus many new ones: A road training ride, a women's road ride, a bike tour of environmentally progressive businesses in the city, and a cycling safety program designed around the route for Saturday's Pedal Power Parade. Boise Bike Week is a celebration of all things cycling as well as a gentle nudge to anyone on the fence about the personal and practical benefits of cycling in the Treasure Valley.

Boise Bike Week was founded by Ryan Henbest and Tracy Wilson in 2003 as a grass-roots celebration of cycling in the Treasure Valley. Beginning in 2007 the event is organized by Treasure Valley Cycling Alliance (TVCA), a local cycling advocacy group also co-founded by Ryan. Under the guidance of TVCA, Boise Bike Week emphasizes the practical aspects of cycling by association with National Bike to Work Week, yet remains a celebration of all manner of cycling in the Treasure Valley.
